On-line tools for managing conflict and evaluating training

Maybo's on-line learning and resource facility can be developed into a violence risk management centre

The managerial tools available related to training include:

1. A staff survey that can be compiled, by drawing together the personal risk assessments filled in by staff. This dynamic tool will give an up-to-date picture of violence risk, and will be able to track changes over time.

2. Training records are easily maintained as individual learning programmes are automatically updated and flagging or prompting can be incorporated to show if section are not being completed.

3. Workplace evaluations can be completed at various intervals after the training to give an accurate picture of the value and recall of the training in the work environment.

The three modules above are designed to link in directly with e-learning tools for delegates.

Policy and strategy related programmes are:

4. The self-audit tool aims to help employers ensure that their organisation's framework for management and practice minimises the risk of violence to which their employees are exposed and enables a supportive response if incidents occur. The tool can be used at any management level in your organisation.

Principle
Each question in the self-audit tool is linked to a set of principles. Where the answer to the self-audit Tool question is 'yes', these principles should enable employers to check that they fully understand their responsibilities.

Where the answer is 'no', the link will lead to a fuller explanation that will enable employers to begin to develop safe management and practice.

For further advice to help you develop and tailor preventive and protective measures Maybo consultancy is available.

5. Risk assessment which looks solely at workplace violence, and enables a thorough understanding of the situation, leading to what appropriate action may need to be taken.

Without a deep understanding of the causes of violence in your workplace it is impossible to design and implement measures that will effectively eliminate or control the occurrence of violence and the risk of harm to your employees. This assessment tool will help you find out if you have a problem, help you to understand the problem, select precautions and set priorities. Whichever methods are adopted it is for senior management to deal with: staff should not be expected to sort it out themselves.

6. Training needs analysis (TNA) is also another prerequisite to finding the right conflict management solutions. The Maybo on-line TNA is thorough and will generate an appropriate learning schedule for the particular job roles examined.

7. Reporting tool enables staff to report an incident quickly and effectively. Incidents are logged and appropriate action prompted. Although the minimum amount of information that needs to be recorded is now determined by the Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 1995 (RIDDOR) in practice the reporting instruments must be designed to capture sufficient information to enable patterns, trends, immediate and underlying causes to be identified.

Maybo's reporting and recording systems are tailored to the needs of the individual organisation and designed to answer the following questions.

  • What exactly happened?  Antecedents, behaviour, consequences
  • Why did it happen? Immediate causes, underlying causes
  • What can we learn so as to prevent it happening again?

Maybo's reporting and recording systems are also designed to provide management information that will inform the corporate risk management process.
