Our approach
A proven, evidence-informed system delivering measurable outcomes
Our approach reflects decades of frontline experience, research and continuous refinement. At its core are our flagship Safer programmes, each shaped around the realities of your service and the people you serve, combined with specialist support before, during and after delivery.
It goes far beyond a single training event: a structured three-step system, built to improve practice and reduce risk.
Three lessons that shaped us
What decades of practice taught us
Training is often a waste of time
Too many organisations jump straight to booking training before they understand the real risks, pressures and realities people face at work. Lasting change begins by listening, reviewing data, analysing incidents and understanding regulatory requirements.
Relevance and rehearsal are key
Learning must reflect real roles, real decisions and real scenarios. Staff need to practise what they are required to do, not just understand what they are expected to know.
If it doesn't stick, it's pointless
Even the most polished training fails if it's left in the training room. Certificates don't reduce risk. Behaviour does.
Step 1
Discover
Seek first to understand.
From the outset you're supported by a dedicated Client Success Partner who understands your industry, service model and operational environment. Together you'll define what success looks like, where training can have the greatest impact, and what support is needed beyond the training itself.
They will take the time to understand:
- The people your staff support or interact with
- Staff roles and responsibilities
- The situations and risks they encounter
- Current challenges and priorities
- Relevant regulatory and governance requirements
- What you want the training to achieve
Your Client Success Partner can support you with
- Training needs analysis
- Programme tailoring
- Regulatory compliance
- Measuring outcomes
- Transition planning
- Roll-out strategy
- Impact review
Step 2
Tailor
Using what we learn during discovery, we shape a Safer programme that reflects your people, your risks and your operational reality. Core principles stay consistent; no two implementations are the same.
Put your people first
- People living with dementia — VERA (Validation, Emotion, Reassurance, Activity) and person-centred approaches
- Children and young people — trauma-informed practice and strengths-based communication
- Learning disabilities and autism — Positive Behaviour Support principles and sensory considerations
- Core — diverse services — flexible emphasis with consistent outcomes
Select the level your staff need
Not all roles carry the same responsibilities, authority or exposure to risk. Staff receive no more and no less than their role requires.
- Safer Approaches
- Safer Responses
- Safer Interventions
We add scenarios drawn from your service, and you can enhance your programme with specialist content for particular roles.
Step 3
Transfer
Culture eats training for breakfast. We help staff, managers and trainers apply learning long after the training room.
Operational staff
An interactive, role-relevant learning experience, a mobile-friendly eBook with videos and tools, and visual prompts that keep behavioural safety visible.
Management
A detailed training proposal, a structured review process to demonstrate progress, and our Personal Safety Planning tool.
In-house trainers
A Trainer Starter Kit, a dedicated Trainer Portal, and continued professional development through refreshers, webinars and our annual conference.
Delivery options
Training delivered by us or by you
We use the latest learning technologies and training approaches to give organisations of all sizes flexibility. Our approaches and outcomes stay the same; delivery adapts to your needs.
Classroom
Team training delivered direct to your staff, wherever you need it. We take time to understand your needs and the scenarios your colleagues face, so courses are highly relevant. Learners receive quality resources and certificates, with a range of accreditation and qualification options.
Virtual Classroom
Engaging team training with high levels of participation, delivered remotely by a skilled facilitator over Zoom or Microsoft Teams. It works well combined with eLearning in a blended programme.
eLearning
Self-study programmes with realistic scenarios and interactive exercises. In a blended strategy eLearning underpins knowledge and reduces time away from work, and it also works on its own for induction and refresher training.
Train the Trainer
We equip experienced trainers to deliver Maybo's accredited curricula within your own organisation. Trainers get our online resource centre, with presentations, session plans, scenarios, sector guidance, training needs analysis tools and interactive eBooks, plus certification for the people they train.
