    This person-centred, human rights-based approach has led us to play a leading role in the development of national guidance, competencies and qualifications.

    We provide flexible, cost-effective training that is based upon different levels of risk and needs.

    Maybo helps care professionals to meet duty of care and regulatory requirements in a way that promotes positive values and behaviours. Our models and learning methods are consistent with the principles of positive behaviour support, focusing on primary and secondary strategies for preventing and defusing conflict and behaviours that challenge. 

    Clients and ‘in house’ trainers benefit from our extensive online resource centre containing a wealth of tools, guidance and learning. These resources and our ‘Champions’ coaching model help local services to reduce risks and restrictive practices and develop personal plans for individuals in their care. 

    In some settings, physical interventions need to be taught to ensure everyone stays safe in a crisis. Our physical skills are proven to be gentle and low arousal, yet robust and safe for use with adults, children and older people when required as a last resort. Our approach helps reduce risks to everyone concerned and focuses on alternatives to force and choosing the least restrictive option when needed. We guide organisations and their staff on how to reduce restrictive practices i.e. not just how to hold more safely. 

    By building staff confidence and competence in how to prevent and safely manage behaviours of concern, quality of care and life can be improved and risks to staff and service users minimised.

     

    Restraint Reduction Network Training Standards 2019

    The 1st April 2019 saw the launch of the new Restraint Reduction Network (RRN) Training Standards 2019 for training services delivered to education, health and social care services that support people with autism, learning disabilities, dementia and mental health conditions across the UK.

    Commissioned by the NHS, the Standards are intended to provide a national benchmark for training in supporting people who are distressed in education, health and social care settings.

    Certification of training services will be a requirement for NHS commissioned services and the Care Quality Commission from April 2020.

    We have been working with BILD ACT (Association of Certified Training) towards certification of our training. The first commercial training organisations to complete certification will be announced by BILD ACT on 20 December 2019.

    As one of the first training organisations involved in the Restraint Reduction Network (RRN) and Positive and Safe Champions Networks, Maybo welcomes these new standards that keep the focus on reducing restrictive practices. We are pleased the standards embrace a person-centred, human rights approach to restrictive interventions which is consistent with our beliefs and training approach.
