• We strive to promote human wellbeing and create positive and safer outcomes

    Mental Health Services

Maybo sets the benchmark for conflict management, physical intervention and risk reduction training for health and social care providers, including mental health services. We have played a leading role in the development of national guidance, qualifications and training for conflict management and risk reduction skills.

    Proven experience and expertise

Maybo provides staff with the skills to de-escalate and manage challenging behaviours that may be exhibited by people receiving treatment in mental health settings.

By building staff’s confidence and competence in how to prevent and defuse challenging behaviours, we believe that a service user’s quality of life can be greatly improved, supporting their journey to recovery.

Our training includes a balance of:

    • Proactive strategies that teach staff how to identify and respond to a patient’s physiological and emotional needs, improve their environment and engage them in ways that reduce behaviours that challenge
    • Reactive strategies to safely manage any emotive and risky situations

Our physical skills are gentle and low arousal when required as a last resort and aim to reduce the need for restrictive practices.

We have a specialist mental health team, led by a qualified and experienced mental health nurse who can help to develop behaviour management strategies.

Restraint Reduction Network Training Standards 2019

The 1st April 2019 saw the launch of the new Restraint Reduction Network (RRN) Training Standards 2019 for training services delivered to education, health and social care services that support people with autism, learning disabilities, dementia and mental health conditions across the UK.

Commissioned by the NHS, the Standards are intended to provide a national benchmark for training in supporting people who are distressed in education, health and social care settings.

Certification of training services will be a requirement for NHS commissioned services and the Care Quality Commission from April 2020.

We have been working with BILD ACT (Association of Certified Training) towards certification of our training. The first commercial training organisations to complete certification will be announced by BILD ACT on 20 December 2019.

As one of the first training organisations involved in the Restraint Reduction Network (RRN) and Positive and Safe Champions Networks, Maybo welcomes these new standards that keep the focus on reducing restrictive practices. We are pleased the standards embrace a person-centred, human rights approach to restrictive interventions which is consistent with our beliefs and training approach.

    • Please pass on my thanks to both trainers. The training was exactly what we required for our Bridge Attendants and they all learnt a lot from it.

      Clifton Suspension Bridge - Bridgemaster

    • Very professional instructors with good background knowledge of the Ambulance Service. Always willing to suggest solutions to possible problems.

      South Central Ambulance Service

    • The course alerted managers to how sensitive management of people after a violent incident can reduce trauma symptoms and aid recovery.

      Mothercare - Profit Protection

    • Please make it known that the whole team had nothing but praise for the trainer and that even the “old hands” found it very stimulating as he raised issues in a very understandable way. May I comment that as a general rule, I have never known of any candidates coming away without having gained a lot from these refresher courses.

      Medirest Services - Security Manager

    • Excellent training session. Kept us all interested for the whole day. Would highly recommend.

      McDonald's Restaurants - Delegate

    • May I say a big thank you for the Maybo violence and aggression course for the ITU nurses. I attended the course today and it was excellent. I think the staff would all agree that the knowledge and skills taught will be hugely beneficial, but in addition, it was a great team-building exercise too. I feel it is imperative that all our ITU nurses attend this course.

    • The Maybo Train the Trainer programme has enabled us to deliver Maybo’s excellent training to staff with our own trainers who have the knowledge and experience of the issues faced by the organisation. Staff in high-risk roles were given the confidence to deal safely with violent incidents.

      NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde

    • Maybo has worked closely with BSUH to develop and enhance the violence reduction training we deliver to frontline staff. Brighton & Sussex University Hospital NHS Trust

    • The training design was based on a comprehensive Training Needs Analysis informed by a bespoke staff survey and review of incidents. It has been an incredibly thorough and risk/evidence-based approach. Evaluation of this training by security and clinical staff has been very positive.
