• A human rights approach, promoting positive behaviour support and reducing restrictive practices

Certified Training in Special Educational Needs and Disabilities

Maybo training provides staff with the skills and awareness required to de-escalate and manage behaviours of concern, with the aim of creating positive and safer learning environments where children can actively learn and explore.

    Proven experience and expertise

Maybo believes behaviour management training should be based on values that promote respect and choices for the individual.

Our learning methods are consistent with the principles of positive behaviour support - focusing on primary and secondary strategies for preventing and defusing behaviours that represent a risk to safety. This helps you:

    • Better understand a child’s physiological and emotional needs that may act as a learning barrier
    • Make improvements to the learning environment
    • Engage children in ways that reduce behaviours of concern

Alongside proactive strategies to meet needs through a human rights approach, our de-escalation strategies help colleagues to safely manage challenging situations that arise, with the aim of reducing the need for restrictive practices.

Maybo was one of the first organisations to evidence compliance with the Restraint Reduction Network (RRN) Training Standards and we can offer training Certified by BILD ACT to Services that meet requirements. Our Trainer Training is also Accredited by City & Guilds.

Our approved curriculum for services supporting children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities consists of ten modules ranging from positive behaviour support, to primary, secondary and tertiary responses to behaviours of concern.

    SEND School Case Study

Maybo recently worked with a SEND school that supports secondary-aged children and young people with moderate to complex needs. Our training was introduced to further enhance staff skills with positive strategies for reducing and responding to behaviours of concern.

    • Maybo have continued to be supportive, collaborative and have added value in keeping our services a safe and positive place to be for staff and the people we support.

      Turning Point

    • I just wanted to take this opportunity to let the Maybo team know that this week’s training was a pleasure to attend. I have now had a few hours at home to process the experience and to reflect on what we accomplished. The guys were excellent tutors and made the whole week enjoyable as well as a superb learning experience.

Jersey Hospice Care - Training Co-ordinator

    • We now have a team of carers who are confident in their ability to handle our son's outbursts and violent behaviour with a safe and consistent approach which minimises any risk to both Charlie and those looking after him.

      Turning Point

    • Our staff team absolutely loved the training and found it to be the most useful and thought-provoking training they had ever been on. One person said ‘why did we not have this 30 years ago when I started?’.

States of Jersey - Head of Service, Children, Young People, Education and Skills

    • My key learning was to step back and assess the situation to avoid situations escalating. It was very eye opening and gave me alternatives to use.

      Marist 180 - Youth Worker

    • It has been a pleasure working with Maybo to coordinate St Mungo’s conflict management learning programme. This solution is ideal for staff and the pre and post support from Maybo is excellent.

      Turning Point

    • We use Maybo eLearning as an introduction as this reduces the time spent away from the workplace and allows more time to be spent developing and practising practical skills.

      Cornwall Care

    • There was a significant reduction in the need to use physical interventions and staff and young people’s injuries are minimal, almost non- existent, as a result of using the Maybo techniques.

      CareTech Holdings

    • Before our Maybo training, the trend was to escort pupils demonstrating challenging behaviour to a less public place to deal with the issue, which often caused the negative behaviour to increase. Maybo's Open Palms approach gives a calming message that pupils will not be held or lead away and the incident is now more often calmed and dealt with without aggression.

      Downs Park School

It was great that the Trainer was able to apply the strategies and training in relation to our day to day encounters. It was easy to relate to, with various real life examples and scenarios.

We all feel this is a massive improvement in reducing risk to the service user, as well as staff, and can see how this is less invasive for the service user.
